I can ping the Mac but I cannot connect to it. The crazy thing is that I cannot even ping the smb Just some notes about lessons I learned spending endless hours trying to figure this stuff out: First important lesson: If one does not work, try the other.
In all cases I have tried, when you use the explicit syntax wherever access to a Network drive is required, it should work. All the above works from Mac OS Name required.

Open the Finder, click Go on the menu at the top of the screen, and select Connect to Server. Drag and drop the network share from under the Shared column in Finder to the list of Login Items.
